Hiking Sketch Book Part 2

June 2 – Friday Night Art Walk
Wil and Maura are exhibiting work at the fabulous new Three Trails Hotel (airbnb) on the corner of Main Street in Elkin, a quaint NC mountain town.

June 3 – Sketching for Hikers class, 10 AM to 1 PM
On Saturday, Wil is teaching a sketching class, beginning on the rooftop of the Three Trails Hotel. No experience necessary.

All these images are from my hiking sketch book and are 3 x 5 inches. Most are pencil or color pencil. A few have some watercolor as well. I have drawn these all last fall and this year. 

 

The Sautee Inn: A beautiful place to enjoy the Georgia Mountains

Maura and I are the artists in Resident at The Sautee Inn near Helen in the north Georgia Mountains. It is a beautiful place to enjoy nature, art antiques and wineries. The Inn is pictured above. It is near about 10 waterfalls!

Thinking about Price's Chicken Coop!

It's lunch time in Charlotte and my mind is thinking about Price's Chicken Coop! This is a watercolor painting I did a few years ago of Price's during a rainy lunch time. 

Hiking Sketchbook 2023!

Since I did so many large drawings last year, I decided to draw small to begin 2023. Here are a few pages out of my hiking sketch book. These are from hikes near Elkin North Carolina alone the Mountain to Sea Trail. I used pencil, color pencil and watercolor paint in a 5 x 8 inches sketch book.

The Story: Seasons of the Stag

For Spring, the Stag is wreathed in Day Lilies, with spring buds appearing on the branches. Wil was approached by friend Steve Schulman about a series of drawings he had long envisioned. Steve had approached other artists, but was never able to realize his vision. So Wil and Steve collaborated through a series of sketches, which eventually became the four paintings. The Stag is represented by a regal North American species whose antlers become tree branches, a surreal element that ties into Wil’s Climate Conversation series of tree drawings. In the original work, the stag itself is graphite, and seasonal accents are in watercolor. Over the next year, Wil will release a Stag print each season.



Seasons of the Stag released at The Sautee Inn

The second print, Spring Stag, will be unveiled on March 4th at the Historic Sautee Inn in the northeast Georgia mountains near Helen, Ga.

The Sautee Inn is a restored, historic bed and breakfast that features eight comfortable rooms adorned with antique furnishings alongside modern comforts. Guests enjoy a gourmet, country-style breakfast prepared by accomplished chefs daily and top off the evening with decadent desserts.

The Inn features Wil Bosbyshell’s drawings and paintings. Maura Bosbyshell’s custom textiles adorn several rooms and common areas.
